What they do: Emergency medicine specialists quickly assess the patient’s condition, stabilize breathing and circulation, relieve severe pain, order urgent tests such as ECG or X-ray, start life-saving treatments and decide whether the patient needs admission, transfer to ICU or can safely go home.
